With this article we begin a set of tutorials that will teach you how to make the most out of this powerful system.
What Is AdWords Select™ and Why Is It Important?
AdWords Select™ is probably the most used pay per click (PPC) program at this time.
PPC is a common way of advertising on the Internet. By using a PPC program (like AdWords™ from Google, Overture™ from Yahoo and many others), you can have your ads placed on the results pages of those search engines. The advantage is that your ads don't just display randomly. The search engine will distribute your ads only to the people that search for certain phrases, that you define. Those search phrases are called keywords, and finding the right ones is an important step in your success with AdWords™.
Of course, in PPC you only pay when somebody clicks on your ad. You don't have to pay for impressions (that is when somebody views your ad but doesn't click on it).
Google started AdWords™ as a pay per view advertising program. In 2002 the people at Google decided to replace AdWords™ with a revolutionary pay per click system that they called AdWords Select™. AdWords Select™ entered the competition with Overture™ (formerly GoTo.com), the No.1 PPC program by that time.
Because of word economy, from now on we'll call AdWords Select™ simply, AdWords™. Ok?
Why Do You Need an AdWords™ “How to” Guide?
Because there are a lot of things you have to learn from now on if you decide to use AdWords™. Of course, Google offers a quite nice help center but extra advice from veteran AdWords™ users is always welcome. Especially when it's put in a simple, organized and comprehensive manner.
Actually, we need you to work with us throughout the sections of this site and you'll see that if you understand how the system works and where you can find valuable help, you'll be able to profit from AdWords™. A LOT.
