Google Local Search: New Syndication Agreements
Thursday, April 28 2005 at 15:43
Google intends to make local search results and maps available to its users by syndicating these services to other sites.
Accuweather is the first syndication partner that Google has chosen for its local search services. First syndicated Google local search results were conducted in beta testing on Wednesday, April 20.
What is local search syndication about? Users of Accuweather.com can now conduct searches of local business (i.e. food delivery at home) through Google's local search service, wherever they are located in US. Users can search or view the local business on a map, without having to leave the webpage they are reading.
The Google Local search box appears in the upper right after a user queries for a local weather forecast.
Similarly, Google Local intends to team up with other websites and services.
The results page is made by paid AdWords ads at the top of the page, followed by organic results of the search query.
The Google Local service gains some awareness through this pilot, and ads some new perspectives to the future of the Google search experience. Officials from Google say they intend to receive feedback on this beta launch and come back with more syndication partners in the future.
